Palabras de la Presidenta, en la toma de posesion 2007-2008 [English]

Buenas tardes, distinguidas invitadas y apreciadas socias de Who's New.

Durante 34 años esta maravillosa Asociación les ha dado la bienvenida a mujeres de todas partes del mundo, brindando amistad y cariño y llenado un poco el vacio que a veces sentimos al estar lejos de nuestra patria y nuestras familias.

En nuestra almuerzo de agradecimiento, el mes pasado, nos decía la Sra. Safia Ibrahim Amin Embajadora de Egipto que ese día sería la última vez que estaría acompañándonos, ya que muy pronto regresaría a su país; sin embargo, ella siempre nos recordaría con especial cariño ya que fuimos en Who's New, las primeras personas en Panamá, en darle la bienvenida, al hacerle una invitación a nuestra asociación.

También, Yo recuerdo que hace un par de años, en una tarde como hoy, nos acompañaba, la Embajadora de los Estados Unidos en Panamá en aquel entonces, la Sra. Linda Watts, y ella nos contaba muy emocionada que al llegar a Panamá se encontraba sola , pues había llegado sin su esposo, y sin sus hijos, luego más triste, pues a los 2 días, recibe la noticia que su padre, estaba gravemente enfermo.

Sumida en estos sentimientos estaba, cuando de pronto, suena el timbre de su casa, al abrir la puerta, vio una Sra. Que sonriente le ofrecía unas galletas (hechas por ella misma), a la vez que le brindada la bienvenida a Panamá y le ofrecía apoyo y su amistad.… Era nuestra socia Sandra!

Panamá es un país pequeño en tamaño, pero grande de corazón. En una encuesta reciente, a nivel mundial, los panameños resultaron en el 5to lugar, como la gente, más feliz y de buen humor. Y yo podría agregar que también se identifican como personas humanitarias.

Demos gracias al Señor, todos los que vivimos en este país, ya sea permanente o transitoriamente, por el car iño y apoyo que hemos recibido, porque vivimos en un país de oportunidades, de nuevas amistades. Por ello las invito, a mantener nuestra misión, ofreciendo una cálida bienvenida y siendo orgullosas representantes de Who's New.

President's Address
to the members at the Installation of the Board of Directors 2007-2008

Good afternoon, to our special guest and to all our Dear members.

For over 34 years this wonderful association, Who's New, has been welcoming women from all over the world, offering friendship and warmth. Many women have recounted their experiences of arriving in Panama without friends or family, and how important our organization has been in filling that void and emptiness.

For example, last month the Egyptian ambassador, Safia Ibrahim Amin, told us that she would always remember this organization because we were the first to welcome her to Panama.

I also remember that several years ago, on an afternoon like this, we had with us the US ambassador, Linda Watts. She told us how lonely she felt being in Panama without her husband or children, and then, how just two days after arriving, she received notice of her father being seriously ill.

She was deeply involved in those thoughts when the doorbell rang, and there on the doorstep was one of our members, Sandra, offering biscuits and friendship. That meant so much to her at a time when she needed companionship a friend.

Panama is a small country, but made large by its people. In a recent worldwide poll, Panamanians were ranked fifth in overall happiness and sense of humor. Panama, and Panamanians, has so much to offer, and we are often the first step for many newcomers to entering into the wonderful culture and warmth that Panama has to offer.

I would like all of us who live in this country, whether temporarily or permanently, to thank the Lord for the opportunities we have been given and have received for new friendships, companionship, and mutual support.

I invite each one of you to continue in the pursuit of our mission, welcoming women to Panama, and being proud representatives of our organization, Who's New
